Tim J Leary
In September of 1974 Tim J Leary started drawing classes at a community college in Central Florida. He also started working as a visual merchandiser that same month. These two events began Tim’s art career.
His work as a visual merchandiser spanned 28 years and three states: Florida, Connecticut, and California. In 1992 Tim and his husband moved to San Francisco. There he completed his formal education, studying spirituality and art, and art therapy.
Tim holds an M.A. in Culture and Spirituality from Holy Names University and a Certificate in Art Therapy from U.C. Berkeley Extension. Tim started a teaching career in 2000 at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in San Francisco. There he taught classes in Drawing, Color and Design Theory, and Creative Process.
In 2015 Tim and his husband moved to Palm Springs, CA, where he is painting and exploring the shapes, light, and colors of the desert. Tim is currently a member of the Palm Springs Art Museum’s Docents and the Artists Council. In 2019 Tim opened Tim J Leary Studios at Backstreet Art District in Palm Springs.
What kind of public art project do I want to work on?
I am interested in public painting projects. The Main Street Benches Project suits my style of painting, which reflects the modern art style so popular in Palm Springs.
