PURA is a Colombian American mixed media artist currently working on her series All That Glitters is Fools Gold.
PURA is inspired by intakes imagery from Museo del Oro in Bogota, Colombia. This prominent museum is home to the largest collection of gold artifacts in the world. These artifacts serve as a glimpse into the life and memory of the indigenous communities that lived in present day Colombia. As a Colombian born American PURA is only now starting to learn about the deep cultural significance gold had to the indigenous communities that her family comes from. In her work, she aims to reflect on her connection to the indigenous community who’s traditions lay the foundation for the myth of El Dorado. She strives to reconnect with her indigenous roots by creating images of her life and memory in gold as those who did before her.
What kind of public art project do I want to work on?
I have done a few public murals in St. Louis Missouri (2017, 2019) as well as an installation at the Westfield Mall’s STREET event in 2018. I have also done live gold leafing at a Coachella Valley Food Truck event in 2019.
