I am a Palm Springs High School class of 2020 graduate who wants to spread positivity and awareness for ongoing problems that aren’t talked about enough or are underrepresented.
I feel that if I could reach more people, I could inspire students to help make changes in today’s society and shape our own futures to be more positive, united, and accepting.
For example, in the past three years, I worked at the Palm Springs Art Museum as a Teen Docent, teaching children as young as the 3rd grade that there is more to art than the image being seen. I taught about messages and stories in art pieces of all kinds and the importance behind them.
What kind of public art project do I want to work on?
I would like to create an art piece, for example, a painted bench or mural that empowers young women and girls. I want to show young women and girls that we are all beautiful regardless of how we perceive ourselves. It is important to teach self-love early and make it a part of our daily routines because, at the end of the day, the thing that matters most is that we are comfortable and happy in our own skin. If this is made into a public piece, I believe it can help many girls and young women love themselves as I wish I did from an earlier age and find the beauty in themselves, thus promoting positive mental images of ourselves rather than fixating on drastic changes made in harmful ways.
